What the mechanic typically does on site
Brake work is one of the more straightforward jobs to complete at the kerbside, provided the car can be jacked safely on level ground:
- Measure pad thickness and disc wear, and inspect for scoring, lipping and corrosion
- Replace front and/or rear pads and discs
- Check and free off sliding pins and caliper movement
- Replace seized or leaking calipers where parts are available
- Brake fluid change and bleeding the system
- Check flexi hoses and hard lines for perishing, chafing or leaks
